Our Church
Good Shepherd Covenant Church is a fellowship of those who are
discovering together the joy of God's love. Entrusting ourselves to
our Creator as He has shown Himself in Jesus Christ, we are finding
that God gives our lives meaning, purpose, and direction.
As a part of a unique denominational family called the
Evangelical Covenant Church, we have no creed but the Bible itself
and no defining commitment other than to Jesus Christ as our Lord
and Savior.
We gather as a whole for worship and in smaller groups for Bible
study and various programs designed to help us grow in
Christlikeness of character: love, faithfulness, graciousness.
There is a place for you in the heart of God and in the family of
the Good Shepherd's Covenant Church!
The Evangelical Covenant Church
The Evangelical Covenant Church, our denominational home, has
grown out of Scandinavian Lutheran roots. The Covenant was born in
Chicago in 1885 when a group of small congregations made a covenant
to support and encourage one another. Most of the early Covenanters
were Lutheran Pietists, which means they shared two simple
commitments, to be devoted to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to
be always attentive to the Bible as the Word of God.
To this day we have no creed for formal statement of faith, which
helps us to be open to and respectful of a wide variety of
fellowships seeking to honor Jesus Christ. We still live by the
keynote message at our 1885 founding conference: "I am the friend of
all those who fear God" (Psalm 119:63). |
