Good Shepherd has recently expanded its staff team to include a
pastor in an unusual position: Minister of Family Life. Since beginning
his work on January 1, Hollis Kim, an ordained Covenant Pastor, has been
using his time to become acquainted with the people of Good Shepherd and
with Twin Cities experts in marriage and family issues. He is
formulating a plan for serving our congregation part time and serving the
broader area of Blaine, Coon Rapids, Andover, and Ham Lake part time.
We've asked him to concentrate on three closely related tasks:
FIRST, helping people prepare for marriage through seminars and
counseling. Our premarital counseling program, which is open to those
inside the church and out, is extensive and extremely helpful to couples.
It includes 10-14 sessions of 90-minutes each and explores the biblical
foundations for marriage, a careful examination of the nature of
forgiveness (an invaluable tool in all marriages!), and a very thorough
discussion of the results of a professionally-designed questionnaire
called Prepare.
SECOND, strengthening marriages through education, workshops, and
small groups. Hollis is available to meet with couples but -- because of
time constraints -- only on a limited basis. His is essentially an
educational position. He is not a professional counselor.
THIRD, assisting parents in raising children. Within our
congregation, Hollis will work closely with our Youth Director in adding
a family-oriented dimension to our youth ministry. Outside the
congregation, he will offer a variety of workshops and training programs
for the broader community.
Watch this site carefully over the next several months as Hollis
begins to establish his ministry. He'll keep us posted on opportunities
in each of the three basic areas of his work.
